How to hold your wedding bouquet

One of the most photographed florals on the day and my favourite thing to make. Your bouquet! Here's a few top tips to get the most from your blooms on the day!

How to hold your wedding bouquet:

- Hold your flowers at the top of the stem, on the ribbon. All my bouquets have a knot at the front, so you know which way is forward to showcase the best blooms and shape.

- Keep them close to your body at waist height so that they don’t obscure your dress.

- Tilt the flowers forward so that you show off the flowers rather than the side of the stems.

- Get someone to remind you to turn your bouquet so the flowers face forwards for photos (bridesmaids, groom, photographer).

- Cascading bouquets need to be held slightly differently, make sure the stems are parallel with the ground, and they are at the right angle for the trail to naturally cascade downwards.

Looking after your flowers on the day:

- Use a vase with water to help your flowers rest and rehydrate when you want to pop them down. Remember to dry the stems so you don’t get water on your dress when you pick them up.

- Have a bridesmaid or designated person to hand your bouquet to during the ceremony or at any key moments. Make sure they know it's their job and can pop it in the vase or look after it with care. Many flowers, especially pale colours will bruise easily if they aren't handled gently.

- Think about what you want to do with it afterwards e.g. drying and pressing. To get the best result, you'll need to start to preserve them within a day. Check out the blog on preserving your wedding flowers for ideas.
