Your wedding day is one of the most personal moments of your life, so it’s important that it’s just the way you want it? While wedding trends and traditions can offer inspiration, they aren’t rules you have to follow, and nothing has to be done a certain way. (no matter what Aunty May might think!)
It’s made me so happy to help so many couples embrace their individuality and do things their way. Here’s my take on how to make your wedding your own and craft a wedding that feels uniquely yours, flowers and all.
Focus on what matters to you
Start by thinking about what’s most meaningful to you as a couple. Maybe you love travelling together, love board games or want to honour your heritage. Despite what people day, there’s no rules and you can incorporate whatever you want into your day. For me and my husband it was keeping it small, having lovely food and lots of flowers (of course!) that was important to us.
Play with colour
Who says you need to stick to pastels or muted tones? If bright, bold colours are more your style, go for it! Your colour scheme and theme are the foundation of your wedding design, so make sure they reflect your personality.
Rethink floral traditions and trends
Flowers are one of the most versatile elements of wedding design, and they can be tailored to fit any style. I’ve got a helpful list of floral items you might want to have here but you don’t “have” to choose any. Here’s a few ideas to get your started:
Love nature – choose greenery and textured grasses.
Environmentally friendly – chose local and seasonal flowers over traditional imported blooms.
Keep it small – focus on flowers for the two of you. Not everyone needs buttonhole.
Make a statement - an oversized hanging floral arrangements can make a big impact.
Involve your guests
Make your loved ones feel part of your special day with interactive or unconventional touches:
Flower bars: let guests create their own mini bouquets as favours.
Memory flowers: have special guests place flowers to remember loved ones in a vase at the ceremony.
Gift your flowers: identify special guests to receive table centres as gifts to take home.
Trust Your Instincts
Ultimately, the best way to make your wedding your own is to follow your instincts. If you love the idea of something unconventional... do it! Whether it’s an intimate elopement, a non-traditional dress, or a quirky flower arrangement, your day should feel right for you.
I love to celebrate individuality and creativity. From designing bold, bespoke bouquets to crafting one-of-a-kind installations, it’s my job to help you express yourselves through flowers.
